The 8 Best Cocktail Bars in Baltimore
If you’re not sure where to head for your after-work drink, don’t worry. Check out our eight favorite cocktail bars in the entire city. Be warned, though: the biggest problem you’ll have now is deciding where to go first.
W.C. Harlan
This hidden gem (literally, it’s unmarked) is cozy, dimly lit, and full to the brim with cocktails that are like nothing you’ve ever tasted before. This incredible hole-in-the-wall speakeasy offers an extensive menu as well as the option to create DIY drinks. But we’d honestly recommend asking the expert bartenders to take the reins and make you something of their choice.
Rye
This incredible establishment invites you to enjoy “the art of the drink” and specializes in whiskeys (in case the name didn’t give it away. As a tribute to Baltimore, they even serve some cocktails from a Natty Boh can. And if you tell the bartender where you’re heading next, they may even give you a boomerang–a cylinder of shots with a love note to your next bartender. Pro tip: don’t go to Rye without trying their signature cocktail, The Diamondback.
The Bluebird Cocktail Room
Something of a local secret, this third-floor cocktail bar is nestled in the former Redman’s Hall building in our home neighborhood of Hampden. The menu is literary-themed and it rotates often, but don’t skip the Old Fashioned with citrus and vanilla poured over a house-carved ice sphere. This spot also has a great porch that swings out in front of the building.
Brewer’s Art
Maybe we love this place because it reminds us of Co-Balt’s Parsonage House, but we can’t deny that it’s got an incredibly homey feel given that it’s located in a former two-storey mansion. Don’t let the name fool you: while its origins are in craft beer, The Brewer’s Art has a long list of incredible cocktails on offer as well.
Birds of a Feather
Attention scotch lovers! This is your place. Don’t just take our word for it. Birds of a Feather has over 120 single-malts on its menu so you can sit down and enjoy pretty much any scotch your heart desires. Enough said.
Papi’s Tacos
Located in the heart of Hampden, this one might seem like more of a restaurant than a cocktail bar but it had to make our list. Why? Because it offers arguably the best house-made margaritas in all of Charm City. You can choose from frozen or classic options with a ton of flavors available. And it’s also a quick stroll from Co-Balt.
Tavern at the Admiral Fell Inn
Looking to really treat yourself? Then check out Tavern at the Admiral Fell Inn. The building itself has an interesting history as a former sailor’s boarding house in 1900 and it boasts signature drinks like the Boston Tea Party–a mix of Jack Daniels, peach iced tea, peach nectar, and a peach slice. But be warned: this place isn’t cheap. It’s one of the priciest cocktail bars in all of Baltimore.
Dutch Courage
If you’re a gin fanatic, Dutch Courage is for you. While it’s got a full bar of spirits available, the star of the show is its gin collection which spans more than 100 varieties.
We don’t know about you, but this round-up really made us thirsty.
By the way, if you don’t have time to head out to a cocktail bar, here’s a gentle reminder that Co-Balt has free beer on tap!
Got a cocktail bar you love that we didn’t include? Let us know and we’ll add it to the list for all to enjoy!
